In a wrongful dismissal case, we can calculate the present value of lost pension income due to missing service during the period of lost wages being claimed. This is of particular significance, if an employee was released just before becoming eligible for a generous early retirement pension option under a defined benefit pension plan. To value lost pension income, we would normally be provided with copies of previous years’ pension statements for the employee, together with pertinent personal and financial information, and a copy of the particular pension plan text or pension booklet.
